Introduction

Winchester Photographic Society (WPS) was founded in 1923. It is now one of the largest clubs in the southern region with a thriving membership of around 180 and with weekly attendance averaging 80. Our members' photographic interests are broad and we try to reflect this in our programme of events. In terms of photographic skills, our membership covers all levels, from absolute beginners who have yet to purchase a camera, to those who travel the world producing sensational images of people and places, flora and fauna.

We meet on Tuesday evenings 7:30-10:00pm from September to May at the Performance Hall in the Winchester Discovery Centre. See the Contact tab for map and directions.

Extensive information about membership can be found under the Membership tab.

The President's Welcome

A warm welcome to our society website. I sincerely hope you will find the information useful and feel motivated to join us whether as a member, potential member or visitor.

We are one of the largest Photography Clubs in the South with a current membership of 180 and have many interesting events for all levels of photographer. This year’s programme has additional new features which should appeal too many, these include two new Special Interest Groups: an Improvers Group providing a follow on from the Beginners group and a Smartphone Group. The Distinctions Group has had success over the past years helping members achieve the Royal Photographic Society’s LRPS distinction and is now also offering coaching to achieve the ARPS distinction.

Non-members are very welcome to any of our Tuesday meetings (sub-groups and workshops are restricted to members only) for £5 per visit (max 4 visits per year) – simply turn up, sign-in and take a visitor badge. Those who subsequently join the Society will have these fees deducted from their joining fee. Full details about membership can be found under the Membership tab.

If you are new to photography or already experienced camera users, share your passion and knowledge with other like-minded folk. Whether your interest is sport, travel, people, landscapes, Nature . . . in a society of our size there are always plenty of other enthusiasts to compare experiences with.

Our Membership pages offer much more detail about what our society has to offer. Take a look, and then come to one of our meetings. Please be aware that due to the success of the society we periodically need to run a waiting list for new members.

More information on what we do can be found here.
